Congenital clubfoot: Treatment

This could be due to absence of common clubfootCongenital clubfoot: TreatmentTreatment programs for congenital clubfoot are different depending on the country, city and even a hospital. Most of the orthopedists use a combination of conservative and surgical approaches in clubfoot correction.

Treatment programs with neonatal clubfoot surgery are popular in Scandinavia. But most frequently surgery is performed after the child reaches 3 months .

The surgical procedures themselves can be either radical or minimal. Until today there is no universal approach to the clubfoot correction in the world.
This could be due to absence of common clubfoot classification and evaluation system. Since 1990 there was 3 International Clubfoot Congresses { Milwaukee, 1990; Amsterdam , 1996 and San-Diego , 2002 }, also an Treatment programs with neonatal clubfootInternational Clubfoot Congresses...International Clubfoot Study Group { ICFSG} was created . Medical experts of our fund, who are the members of this group, made presentations in 1996 and 2002. The next meeting of this group is planned for summer 2003 in USA, universal clubfoot classification and rating system will be discussed.

The rating system, offered by our fund, was published in 1997 in Journal of Pediatric Orthopedics { see: Publications} and is successfully used in a number of countries.
